Great range session

Great range session

Postby ozgolfnut on Tue Sep 15, 2009 2:56 am

Before I start - I know this means nothing on the weekend, when it comes to a comp round.....

But I had a great range session today.

The sun was shining, and I went to work on a few minor tweaks. These included:

- Slightly narrower stance
- Reduced hip turn on the backswing, maintaining a full shoulder turn
- Improved grip position, notably the position of my right hand, extending further down the grip
- Teeing up higher with Driver

After a few warm up swings, I worked my way up the bag from SW to driver, and found lots of positives:

- The reduced hip turn kept me on target a little better, and put some real snap back into my downswing.
- Contact was better from the narrower stance and grip change
- Trajectory and ball flight were better, with improved carry, and less movement left & right
- Much better launch and carry on the driver from a higher tee
- Long irons and 3 wood were much more solidly struck, and I can play them with a little fade, which is nice.

Overall, it was the most pleasing practice session I have had in a long, long time. That is not saying much, though, as I have barely played or practiced over the past couple of months. I am really looking forward to a comp round this Saturday, but I am realistic enough to understand that other than a little confidence, I can't take too much of this session out on to the course with me. It was nice to hit some quality shots again, though, that is for sure.
